Andy update- and it’s a good one!!
Andy continues to meet and exceed all expectations of his recovery. He will not have to go to a rehab facility. He will be discharged to go HOME as early as the beginning of next week!! The trach is now capped and as long as there are no “hiccups” it will be removed tomorrow or the following day. The next big step is getting his jaw unwired. They cut the feeding tube by 12 hours so he will be getting smoothies , soups, and protein drinks to supplement. PROGRESS!!

I just have to add- Andy might be super human! To see his progress over the last 2.5 weeks is truly amazing. Dennis and I got to see him again on Monday while he was still in ICU. Fast forward to Wednesday and he looked SO much better. We could hear him, understand him, he was Andy. Cracking jokes (acting like he was going to through his strength balls for his hands at Dani) and at the same time still emotional and loving. He’s ready to get home and move!
This picture I got today blew my mind. You’ll see why. (In the comments)
Keep going friend!!!
August 1st 7pm update:
Andy update!!! 8/1
Andy is FINALLY out of ICU!! Today he got himself into a wheelchair (with a little help). His jaw remains wired but he still passed the swallow test and can use a narrow syringe/straw to drink water, milkshakes, soup, etc. Every specialist, surgeon, and nurse that assesses him is completely surprised and impressed by his progress!! He’s a POWERHOUSE and continues to amaze us everyday.
Andy was involved in a serious accident on July 18th. His injuries are severe but thankfully not life threatening. Andy will be in the hospital for some time and unable to work or walk for the foreseeable future. We would like to set up a fund for the family so that they have one less thing to worry about. We created this in lieu of a meal train for two reasons. First, Ryan, Logan, Callie and their spouses and kids, will be staying with Dani while Andy is in the hospital. They want to be able to cook and eat dinner together as they need to continue to support one another. Second, Andy will be out of work for an unknown amount of time as his recovery will be long. We’d like to be able to help them through this tough time.
Andy is a wonderful husband, a great dad, and awesome Papa and a friend to many of us. Please help them, they way they would you.
UPDATE 7/19 9:17pm
Andy underwent over 8 hours of surgery last night with four surgeons and is schedule for another 4-5 hour surgery tomorrow. These are the first of many. His injuries are quite extensive but not life threatening. The road to recovery will be long and painful. Please keep him and the family in your thoughts. We will update the Go Fund Me as the family navigates through the next few weeks
Update 7/20 7:30pm
Andy update!!! Surgery went well and Andy is in recovery. Today the surgery was five hours. They repaired his shattered hip socket and shattered knee. They will perform another surgery on Monday to work on his broken ankle, foot, and additional surgery on his face. He will remain intubated until at least Monday.
The family is incredibly thankful for all the love and support. We will continue to keep you posted on Andys’ progress.
As mentioned- this will be a long process with MULTIPLE surgeries. Please continue to keep Andy and the family in your thoughts and prayers.
7/21 FROM DANI..
From Dani (Cherisse)
I can’t possibly explain what the show of love and support means to us. I’ve always said “everybody loves Andy” and I was right!!!
I’m sure many of you have questions regarding the accident it’s self. I don’t have too many details I can share, thus far, as Andy has been sedated. I do know that he did everything he possibly could to try to avoid hurting ANYONE. He really tried. I also know the first thing he asked when help arrived was how the other driver was.
Andy is extremely lucky his injuries weren’t more severe. If I didn’t believe in miracles before, I do now. He is EXTREMELY lucky. WE are extremely lucky. Thank you all so much for your outpouring of love, kindness, and support. We will update you as soon as we can flowing Mondays surgery.
7/24 Andy update:
Today’s surgeries (two surgeons working simultaneously) were successful!!! For now, he gets a break from surgery in order to give him a much needed break and a chance to heal. He will remain sedated for (possibly) another few days. Our spirits are lifted as we’re another step closer to being able to talk to him. WE CANNOT WAIT. Thank you ALL again, for ALL of your love and support. I still can’t put into words the level of gratitude and appreciation we have for you.
Andy update. 7/26 7:45pm
It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions the last two days for Andy and the family.
First, they would like everyone to keep the driver of the other vehicle in the same thoughts and prayers as Andy. We do not have any information in regards to any injuries he may have but, want to wish him the best. Andy asked medics about the other driver immediately and that shows why we all love Andy. The accident was caused by a mechanical malfunction and was unavoidable.
Andys medical team began removing him from some of the sedation meds on Tuesday. He began to open one of his eyes and move his feet and hands. He shakes his head yes and no and responds to some commands. The family, as you can imagine was thrilled. Once more of the sedation wore off, it was very clear the level of pain Andy is feeling. He is frequently agitated and very emotional.
This morning, I got to go spend about 5 hours with Andy. I knew immediately that he recognized me and was trying to tell me what was bothering him. His jaw is wired shut and he’s on a trach- so he cannot make noise or open his mouth. I thought I had narrowed down what it was and went to get his nurse. As the nurse came into the room, he told me Andy couldn’t understand me and that he wasn’t communicating. I got quite the laugh when Andy waved his hand at the nurse and shook his head firmly yes- like I DO understand. Things with the nurse changed after that. Dani’s brother Matt who arrived on scene at the time of the accident got to work with Andy as well. He recognized if his eye was itching, or his foot needed to be elevated. It was incredible to see someone who is so injured beginning to heal.
It is so clear that Andy is in pain and has a long way to go- but what is more clear is how STRONG he is. How AMAZING he is. He’s a real life miracle
The goal over the next few days is to get Andy out of ICU and get him on oral (tube) pain medications. Again, this will be a very long recovery. The Runds will need the help of their friends and family for quite some time.
If you haven’t yet purchased tickets to the fundraiser, please do so ASAP. With space being limited, we don’t want his loved ones to miss out. Also, if you’d like to donate a desert for the desert raffle- please reach out!
Thank you to everyone for the continued love and support. It is so very appreciated by the family. The feel all the love
-Jodie
7/30 update
Andy is still in ICU but improves daily!!He is now able to write so communication has gotten easier. His jaw will remain wired for 2 more weeks and until then, the trach will remain in place. That being said, he is not on a ventilator and breathes on his own!! We started range of motion PT yesterday which entails wiggling his toes, bending his knees, and flexing his feet throughout the day. Because of the extended length of time he was sedated, he is experiencing “delirium”. It’s a little scary (for us)and frustrating (for him). It is temporary but stressful, none the less. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts. The love and support we receive continues to grow and leaves me awestruck. Here’s a picture from one of his job sites
