On January 22, 2022, Mat underwent emergency surgery after having a middle cerebral artery stroke. Mat handled the surgery well but has a long road of recovery ahead. He currently is able to communicate without issue but has yet to regain full use of the left side of his body.
Mat will be in the hospital for at least a month while recovering. He is then expected to move home with daily PT to help him regain mobility and strength. It is likely he will not be able to return to work for some time.
Mat's wife Ashley has been by his side everyday. Mat and Ashley have 6 kids, Ethan, Mason, Gerad, Alina, Quinn, and Chloe.
Even with insurance, the cost of being in the hospital is very expensive in addition to the rehabilitation costs post-discharge care. We want both of them to pull through this with minimal stress while Mat is recovering.
Growing up, Mat always wanted to help people in anyway possible. After high school, Mat joined the United States Air Force and served for 4 years before separating and attending the University of Pittsburgh. He went on to graduate and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. He has spend countless hours pouring himself into his work of helping others all while raising a beautiful family with his wife Ashley.
Thank you for the outpouring of support and prayers for Mat and his family. There’s a lot of uncertainty and unexpected costs with this diagnosis and with your help we can all help Mat and Ashley focus as much attention on Mat's recovery as possible.
