Dear friends and generous strangers,

I am reaching out to ask for urgent help for my friend Gabriela's family in Venezuela. After the devastating earthquakes near Caracas last month, her family has endured immense hardship. Her mother, Alexandra (pictured here), who struggles with health issues, is currently homeless and is sheltering in a local school after her apartment building was severely damaged. The earthquake tragically took the precious lives of several members of Gabriela's family, including her cousin and her two young twin sons.

We are hoping to raise funds to help Alexandra and her family to recover from this tragedy. Your donations are especially needed to help with daily expenses such as food and clean water, as well as to help them secure safe housing (which they expect will be quite expensive due to the magnitude and severity of the damage to apartment buildings throughout the region).

As I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend, all funds will initially go to my account here in the U.S. Then, Gabriela and I will transfer the money directly to her mother Alexandra, in Caracas.

Me dirijo a ustedes para pedir ayuda urgente para la familia de mi amiga Gabriela en Venezuela. Tras los devastadores terremotos ocurridos cerca de Caracas el mes pasado, su familia ha atravesado situaciones sumamente difíciles. Su madre, Alexandra, quien padece problemas de salud, se ha quedado sin hogar y se está refugiando en una escuela local después de que el edificio donde vivía sufriera graves daños. El terremoto cobró trágicamente la vida de varios miembros de la familia de Gabriela, incluyendo a su prima y a sus dos hijos gemelos pequeños.

Esperamos recaudar fondos para ayudar a Alexandra y a su familia a recuperarse de esta tragedia. Sus donaciones son especialmente necesarias para cubrir gastos cotidianos, como alimentos y agua potable, así como para ayudarles a conseguir una vivienda segura (lo cual, según prevén, resultará bastante costoso debido a la magnitud y gravedad de los daños sufridos por los edificios de apartamentos en toda la región).
