Hello all, we are the Rohrbaugh's, Blair, Devon, Bodyn, Raidyn, and our newest member, Maxdyn. Unfortunately, we have recently found ourselves in the most difficult situation we have ever had to face, in what should have been a time of happiness and celebration. We could have never imagined Devon was about to miss the first 6 weeks of Max's life. On July 12th, we went into the hospital so excited to meet Max for a routine c-section. During the delivery, complications occurred. They had a very difficult time getting him out. His head was stuck, so they rotated him, pulling him out breech, which landed him in shock, and as a result, he was not breathing when he came out. They placed a breathing tube and rushed him to the NICU, and thankfully, he began breathing on his own. At some point during the chaos, Devon's small bowel was damaged. This was not known for a bit, during which time Devon began falling ill to sepsis. Devon's memory is pretty blurry from the time of delivery up until being woken up in the ICU almost a week later. She does not remember meeting Max for the first time, or the boys meeting their brother for the first time. Things escalated into needing several surgeries and procedures to try and clear out infection and repair her bowel. Devon was medically sedated for several days and ended up spending just shy of 20 days in the hospital. After trying to go home, she became septic again and ended up back in the hospital needing another procedure for complications due to abscesses. Things escalated even further when the lung cavities became infected and filled with fluid, essentially squishing her lungs. After chest tubes and treatments failed, she ended up needing another surgery—a VATS lung surgery. After another just shy of 20 days in the hospital, Devon was able to go home, this time with a better plan of care. While there is still a risk for more abscesses to form, we are hoping that won't happen and the worst is behind us.

Thankfully, we have immediate family who was/is able to help with childcare and some needs as well as attend to Devon, to help us get through the worst, most chaotic part of all this. Blair has had to miss several days of work, and with Devon not returning to work as planned, things are starting to catch up to our family. We are so grateful for the help we have received already and have tried not to ask for any additional help. We have realized how humbling it is to be in a situation where you have to put your pride aside for your family and ask, please, for any help you may be able to give. We would be forever grateful for anything to help us get through this storm we have encountered. Thank you for your time and consideration.
