Halfway through their second pregnancy, Cynthia and Jacob Rigby decided to take a much-needed babymoon and set out on a cruise leaving from Greece. With a 20-month-old son at home with grandma, they were excited to have some downtime before welcoming their baby girl in October. But things quickly went south when Cynthia woke up on the cruise ship to her water breaking.

The couple was able to get off the ship and to a hospital in Greece where tests confirmed her water had broken at only 23 weeks pregnant. With such a high-risk medical situation, Cynthia is unable to fly home on any commercial airlines and is trapped in a Greek hospital on bedrest, doing her best to stay pregnant as long as possible to give her baby girl the best chance of survival.

Her husband Jacob is with her, but doesn’t have the option from his employer to work remotely but doesn’t want to leave his wife alone in such a precarious situation. The couple is being required to live in Greece indefinitely and will have to cover out-of-country medical expenses, lodging, and airfare out of their own pockets. Plus they have a son who isn’t allowed in the hospital with them due to COVID restrictions and doesn’t understand why he can’t be with his parents.
