Help The Real Family Fight Guillain Barre
For the none believers & believers of this awful and dreadful virus called ”COVID-19 or Coronavirus” My dad “Luis Real” came home some day in the middle of June 2020 from a long days worth of working under the sun for 10-12 hours as a Mechanic and began to question some throat pain/dryness to his family. The next couple of days went by and he was perfectly fine working like usual taking motors apart and etc.. a week later he came home complaining of a sharp lower back pain and he went on to take a pill for the pain and told my mom and sister and I that he was feeling tiered and wanted to lay down to go to sleep early and get rest. He was never the same after that night ....
The next morning My younger sister went through the worst and most terrifying experience anyone could witness Imagine falling asleep at the end of a typical day and when you wake up you’re completely unable to walk.Unfortunately this is the reality of what happen to my dad..As he woke up that morning he knew something was wrong.He yelled out for my sister to come help him out of the bed.He complained to her that he had an extreme sharp pain on his lower back and felt tingling in his fingers and feet.There was no way my sister would be able to help him get to the bathroom so she called our aunt for help.My sister & aunt grew worried and scared.My dad screamed in pain & cried in agony as they helped him. He fell several times and they both knew they had to call 911 for help. They shortly rushed him to a near by hospital
it wasn’t until 8-9hrs that went we got the first call from the doctor.The doctor explained they did the coronavirus test,x-rays, a CT scan of the brain & chest, a few MRI's and blood work. He immediately said he was positive for the virus and he had never seen anything like this.The doctor explained they needed to preform a procedure called a lumbar puncture/Spinal tap which can help diagnose serious infections, like meningitis ,disorders of the central nervous system or cancers of the brain & spinal cord. It was a matter of time before we got the diagnosis.After being rushed to the hospital and having countless tests performed, My dad “Luis” was diagnosed with Gullian -Barre syndrome. This disease is rare and only 1 to 2 people out of 100,000 are diagnosed with GBS every year.(GBS) is a rare neurological disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its nervous system.His body was fighting the Coronavirus and his immune system went into overdrive which began attacking his nervous system. There's no known cure for GuillainBarre syndrome. He had to be transferred to the ICU but due to the Coronavirus they didn’t have any availability for him on that floor. The progression of the disease has been unfortunately caused extensive damage and he lost the use of approximately 90% of his nervous system. Basic tasks such as holding a cellphone are difficult and essential tasks such as getting out of bed and using the bathroom are impossible without extensive help from the nurses.
The intensity of the pain is severe. The doctor explained to us that he needed immediate treatment and was going to start him on a very expensive treatment called intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), a typical treatment for GBS.We are created this go fund me to please help with the financial burden he has faced being in the hospital for three weeks and the Medical Expensive for the expensive treatments and Physical therapy that he’ll need for the next 6-12 months. We greatly appreciate any help even if it’s $1 dollar or a simple share . My dad has a long road ahead of him, but he’s determined to beat this condition and has a strong family behind him.
