On Friday, June 4, 2021 at approximately 5:30 pm, I received a video call from Randy. The 1st words out of his mouth were, "I am losing my apartment to a fire right now". He panned the camera around to show a view from the outside and it was a hit straight to the heart. I could see that there were flames and black smoke engulfing his living room. It was very clear at that point, that The Randys were losing everything.
THE STORY
Little Randy noticed smoke outside of the bedroom window and yelled, "Dad, there's smoke!". Randy looked over out of his bedroom window and saw black smoke coming over the neighbors balcony fence. He kicked out his window screen and jumped out to the balcony yelling to his neighbors a couple times, "You have a fire!". There was no answer so he began to yell, "FIRE!!" as loud as he could several times to alert everyone within the vicinity. At that point, Randy told Little Randy that they needed to follow their fire escape plan and told Little Randy to grab their cat. Randy grabbed a few things; family photos and the birds. Once they were to safety, Randy ran back and grabbed the fire extinguisher from his fridge and went to attempt to help the neighbors. Another neighbor kicked down the door and Randy begin spraying with the extinguisher but quickly realized that he was not going to stop it. It was too far gone and it was clear that this fire was going to be taking over his apartment. Randy gave his shirt to Little Randy, and he did not even have a shirt on during the whole ordeal. The fire department took a while to show up and they also had trouble finding a hydrant for several minutes. To boot, management of the apartments has changed recently, and the office stated that they do not have any record of renters insurance which was purchased through the old management company.
All the furniture and clothes were burned up. His collections are all lost; including his library of 300+ personal development books/audios collected over 20+ years, and his collection of 670+ records from over 25 years of collecting since age 17. All his carefully selected movies are gone. Decorations collected and gifted from family & friends. Autographed items; such as his Rowdy Roddy Piper picture signed directly to Little Randy. All his musical equipment (mics, amps, turntables, mixer, home stereo equipment, 5 guitars and 1 bass, Djembe drums), 2 Mac Pro towers that he used for all his video editing. Luckily, he was able to grab his late father's guitar. Most importantly; The Randys and their animals are safe.
Anyone that knows Randy, can see the love and positivity that he exudes. Randy has worked very hard to piece together his wonderful apartment. The Randys are full of life and love, and the ambiance of that apartment was a direct reflection of that! They could really use a lot of support right now in this devastating time.
If you can find it in your heart to make a donation, we would all be very much appreciative. If anyone deserves to get back some of the positivity he gives out into the universe, it is Randy.
Donations will be used to help start to re-establish their lives-- and restart from the beginning!
