Hello, my name is Sabrina Ramos. I am the wife of Yovani Ramos. Some of you may know him, some may not, but here is a little background on him and the wonderful person he is. I met Yovani in high school, and ever since, we have been completely inseparable. We are going on 12 years of being together and a little over 2 years married. He is a loving husband and a very involved father to our son, Julian. He is a very selfless man and will give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. Yovani has always been the sole provider in our family and taken on all the stress of everyday life, bills, etc., without hesitation.
Fast forward to why I am writing this today, Yovani was diagnosed with CHF (congestive heart failure) back in 2021. Since then, we have been in and out of the hospital getting him the necessary medical treatment he needs. He was recently admitted to the hospital on 9/28/2024 due to his oxygen levels being dangerously low. The doctors jokingly referred to him as a “dead man walking” as nobody’s oxygen levels should be below 98, and Yovani’s was reading 45 when we walked into the hospital. They ran multiple tests, CTs, ultrasounds, etc. You name it, and they ran it. He started to get very jaundiced while in the hospital, and they couldn’t figure out why. Turns out his bilirubin count was too high. He also developed what we thought was pneumonia while in the hospital. He had an excessive amount of fluid building up in his lungs. We later got the diagnosis that he has acute pulmonary edema (APE). APE is considered to be a medical emergency that occurs when too much fluid builds up in your lungs, making it extremely difficult to breathe properly. Along with the APE, he got the hypoxia (low oxygen levels in your body tissue) diagnosis as well. The (sometimes long-lasting) side effects of hypoxia are confusion, restlessness, difficulty breathing, rapid heart rate, loss of memory, and organ damage if left untreated for too long. With all of this being said, he now has to be on oxygen long-term due to the above diagnoses.
We recently found out we do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid, the two ways that would help us get all the necessary medical equipment that he needs on a day-to-day basis. Yovani’s health insurance was recently terminated as well as his employment right before he was admitted into the hospital. We are asking for help to offset the medical expenses we’ve not been prepared for. His upcoming appointments cost anywhere between $180-$500 per appointment, and that’s not including medication or testing. He is our anchor to our family, and we need help getting him back to full health. Even a message sending thoughts and prayers is extremely appreciated.
Thank you so much, The Ramos Family.
