Help the Rainbow Theatre Group get going!

2021 marks the 30th Anniversary of the original foundation of the Rainbow Theatre Group, and with it sees the revival of this amateur music and drama group for children and young people in Letterkenny. We look forward to welcoming a new generation of emerging talent, and giving them a platform for them to grow and develop their confidence and communication through performing arts, and to staging shows that the whole community can enjoy.

At the time, there was little to no theatrical music and drama in the town for children, so an idea was formed by Treasa McKeown to set up a new youth group. And so, the Rainbow Children’s Theatre Group was originally set up by Treasa at the tender age of 14. After initial auditions, at the helm in the first number of years as Producer was Patricia Lynch (RIP 2019), assisted by Kathleen Ruddy (RIP 2015), with Kathleen taking the helm in its later years, assisted by Kathleen Doherty. The Rainbow Theatre Group has always had the ethos of letting each child shine to their own strengths on stage. In addition to their annual variety show productions, the Rainbow Theatre Group also competed in national competitions, and provided entertainment at corporate events and launches, representing the town of Letterkenny with pride at a national and international level.

The Production Team and Committee is made up entirely of volunteers who have give their time, efforts, energy and skills free of charge and for the benefit of the young people involved, and they will continue to carry on and promote the ethos of volunteering and working for the greater good of the young people.

Now under the leadership of Kathleen Ruddy’s daughter, Mary Lane, along with Audrey Coyle, the Rainbow Theatre Group is in in the exciting phase of reforming with a vibrant new Committee and Production Team, with a view to casting before the year is out.

And this is where YOU come in! We really need help with the outline/set up costs for the reestablishment of the group, and for the future stage production of “That’s Entertainment”, a variety show using the same format as the Rainbow shows of the past. Many costs are inevitable to get the group up and running again. The setup costs include insurance, membership to Youth Theatre Ireland, and setting up a website. Going forward to producing a show will incur costs such as venue hire, script and music royalties, costumes, lighting and sound hire, printing costs, and much more. Your sponsorship would go a long way in covering these costs, as well as allowing us to produce high quality and memorable shows for the community.

We are extremely grateful for any level of sponsorship that you are able to pledge to us at this time.

We look forward to emerging from this turbulent time of Covid restrictions with a new and invigorating group for children and young people in Letterkenny, and allow them an outlet to express themselves through music, dance, drama and comedy. Once again, we are very thankful to anyone who is able to support this exciting new chapter.

If you have any questions at all, please contact us on our Facebook or Instagram pages.
