Help the Powell Family with Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hi everyone, I’ve made this fundraiser for my sister, Lynn, her husband Jon, and daughters Jasmine and Willow.
On Friday, December 1st, 2023, after a week of high fevers, sickness and negative virus tests earlier that week, Jasmine (6 years old) was admitted to the hospital with low oxygen levels as well as various other concerning stats. Bloodwork showed that she was very sick with a bacterial infection in her blood. She needed oxygen, blood transfusions, and platelets.
Jasmine and Lynn were transferred by Medivac from their local hospital to the children’s hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At the children’s hospital, Jasmine was diagnosed with leukaemia which was what had caused her to get so sick from the bacterial infection.
On Monday, December 4th, she had a procedure to find out what type of leukaemia to determine the treatment plan. Jasmine’s official diagnosis is B Cell ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia). She will be getting a port and starting chemotherapy treatment in the next few days. She is expected to be in the hospital for several days for the initial treatment session.
The majority Jasmine’s treatments will take place in Regina, but some will be in Saskatoon at the Children's Hospital. These hospitals are, respectively, 2:15 hours and 3:15 hours away from their home. The cost of fuel to the hospitals, Ronald McDonald House rooming fees, and the cost of meals will add up quickly with the treatments, required hospital stays, and appointments.
They have estimated Jasmine’s treatment length to be 2 to 2.5 years (2025/2026), with the most intensive part being the first 6-8 months. This treatment has an 90-95% success rate in curing leukaemia.
Anything that you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to at this time, sharing the GoFundMe is appreciated. We are so grateful for every gift to help them with their medical expenses.
