Help for the Portela Family
Without a doubt this last year has been difficult for everyone. Our mom is no exception. A very special person and active in her congregation, she spends her time mostly teaching people about the bible and helping our family. Our mom is a person who spreads positivity and joy! A very strong woman who has been able to endure many trials over the years including the battle with breast cancer and the death of my father, her husband of 37-years! (he lost his battle with brain tumor) This past year the Pandemic caused her to lose her employment, and through it all, she continues to be a source of support and praise for all of us.
Our mom began having medical problems in October 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic and high rise of COVID positive cases forced her studies to be canceled time after time. In November, the doctor found problems with her gallbladder while in an urgent admission at the hospital. She was discharged just a day later to seek gallbladder treatment with a specialist. A few weeks ago, her health declined to the point of another emergency admission to the hospital. She was admitted and further tests were performed immediately.
Our mom has been diagnosed with stage 4 gallbladder cancer.
Our family is devastated!
The cancer has spread to her liver, it's extremely advanced and aggressive. Sadly the prognosis is not good. We have faith that Jehovah God gives us strength for everything (Isaiah 12:2).
As you can imagine, the health costs are significant and not all the treatment methods are covered by her insurance. And as the saying goes, “When it rains, it pours” - my sister Valeria, our mom’s main caretaker, will soon run out of paid time off due to time she has had to take from her job during these last couple of months. Although we contribute as a family, Valeria covers the rent and utilities for our mother.
Today, we humbly come to you, asking for your help. Please help us ease the burden during this difficult time.
Our mother’s treatment will last a minimum of 8 months. All funds will be used for medical and housing expenses for our mom.

Sin duda este último año ha sido difícil para todos. Nuestra mamá no es una excepción. Una persona muy especial y activa en su congregación, pasa su tiempo principalmente enseñando a la gente sobre la Biblia y ayudando a nuestra familia. ¡Nuestra mamá es una persona que transmite positividad y alegría! Una mujer muy fuerte que ha podido soportar muchas pruebas a lo largo de los años, incluida la batalla contra el cáncer de mama y la muerte de mi padre, ¡su esposo durante 37 años! (perdió su batalla con un tumor cerebral) El año pasado, la pandemia hizo que ella perdiera su empleo y, a pesar de todo, sigue siendo una fuente de apoyo y elogios para todos nosotros.
Nuestra madre comenzó a tener problemas médicos en octubre de 2020. Desafortunadamente, la pandemia y el alto aumento de casos positivos de COVID obligaron a cancelar sus estudios una y otra vez. En noviembre, la doctora encontró problemas con su vesícula biliar mientras estaba ingresada de urgencia en el hospital. Fue dada de alta apenas un día después para buscar tratamiento de la vesícula biliar con un especialista. Hace unas semanas, su salud se deterioró hasta el punto de otra admisión de emergencia en el hospital. Fue admitida y se le realizaron más pruebas de inmediato.
A nuestra madre le diagnosticaron cáncer de vesícula biliar en etapa 4.
¡Nuestra familia está devastada!
El cáncer se ha extendido a su hígado, es extremadamente avanzado y agresivo. Lamentablemente, el pronóstico no es bueno. Tenemos fe en que Jehová Dios nos da fuerzas para todo (Isaías 12: 2).
Como puede imaginar, los costos de salud son significativos y no todos los métodos de tratamiento están cubiertos por su seguro. Y como dice el refrán, "Cuando llueve, truena", mi hermana Valeria, encargada principal de nuestra madre, pronto se quedará sin horas libres pagadas por su trabajo debido al tiempo que ha tenido que tomar de su trabajo durante estos últimos meses. Aunque contribuimos como familia, Valeria cubre el alquiler y los servicios públicos de nuestra madre.
Hoy venimos humildemente a ustedes pidiendo su ayuda. Ayúdenos a aliviar la carga durante este momento difícil.
El tratamiento de nuestra madre tendrá una duración mínima de 8 meses. Todos los fondos se utilizarán para gastos médicos y de vivienda de nuestra madre.
