Help the Pollock Family Rebuild After a New Year’s Day House Fire

On New Year’s Day, shortly after 12:30 am, the Pollock family was jolted awake by their smoke detector. When Maria and Shamar went to check, they saw smoke and flames spreading through their home. With only seconds to react, they grabbed their sleeping baby, Olive, and ran outside to safety.

By the grace of God, all three made it out alive.

But they lost everything.

In a single night, the place where Olive experienced milestones, where bedtime stories were read, where family life happened, was gone. Their home is no longer livable. All of their belongings were destroyed. Both of their cars were lost. Clothes, furniture, baby items, important documents, and the life they had built were erased in a matter of minutes.

Right now, the family is staying in a hotel while preparing to move into a rental that was recently approved. This new home is an answered prayer, but it also comes with heavy upfront costs including deposits, first month’s rent, utilities, and the overwhelming reality of starting again with nothing. On top of that, they are without transportation and without the everyday items every family needs just to function.

They do have insurance, but they have already been told the coverage is likely going to be significantly less than the cost to rebuild their home, leaving them facing a large and uncertain financial gap during one of the hardest seasons of their lives, while the insurance investigation process is still occurring.

El Día de Año Nuevo, poco después de las 12:30 de la madrugada, la familia Pollock fue despertada por el detector de humo. Cuando Maria y Shamar fueron a revisar, vieron humo y llamas dentro de su hogar. Sin tiempo para pensar, tomaron a su bebé Olive, que estaba dormida, y salieron corriendo para ponerse a salvo.

Por la gracia de Dios, los tres salieron con vida.

Pero lo perdieron todo.

En una sola noche, el lugar donde Olive dio sus primeros pasos, donde se leían cuentos antes de dormir y donde vivía su familia, desapareció. Su casa ya no es habitable. Todas sus pertenencias fueron destruidas. Ambos carros se perdieron. Ropa, muebles, cosas del bebé, documentos importantes y la vida que habían construido se perdieron en minutos.

Actualmente, la familia se encuentra en un hotel mientras se preparan para mudarse a una casa de renta que fue recientemente aprobada. Este nuevo hogar es una respuesta a la oración, pero también trae grandes gastos iniciales, como depósito, primer mes de renta, servicios públicos y la realidad abrumadora de empezar de cero. Además, no tienen transporte ni los artículos básicos que una familia necesita para vivir.

Ellos sí tienen seguro, pero ya les informaron que la cobertura casi de seguro es mucho menor que el costo real de reconstruir su hogar, lo que los deja enfrentando una gran brecha financiera en este momento tan difícil, especialmente con el tiempo que se toma para que el seguro complete todas sus investigaciones y el proceso completo.
