My sister Jenny, her husband Brian, and their two children, Matthew and Kaitlyn, faced a devastating tragedy when Tropical Storm Helene struck Hendersonville, North Carolina. Multiple trees fell and completely destroyed their home. Though we are incredibly grateful that everyone is safe—including their two dogs—they have lost nearly everything and now need the essentials before beginning the difficult journey of rebuilding.

When my sister called me, she said, "Whatever you are imagining, it's worse." She described the devastation in each room and how she could see the sky through her daughter's bedroom. As she looked around, she realized not only were their possessions gone, but so was the home where she had raised her children. They are incredibly lucky to have made it out without a scratch.

Due to the extreme destruction in the area from flooding, high winds, and rain, they will have to wait a significant amount of time to even begin the cleanup process, much less the task of rebuilding their home.
