On march 18 of this year 2024 my life changed. Not just mine but my husband our 2 sons and everyone in our family. My husband is 36 years old and has been told he needs to for get the life we had planed and focus on the life he will have now being a Myelodysplastic syndrome with single lineage dysplasia (MDS-SLD) is a rare, uncommon type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. In MDS-SLD, only one type of blood cell, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets, has abnormalities. This is different from "multilineage dysplasia", where more than one type of blood cell is affected. People with MDS-SLD have low numbers of one or two types of blood cells, but normal numbers of the other types. They also typically have cytopenia, which is a reduction in the number of mature blood cells.
MDS prevents blood stem cells from maturing into healthy blood cells, which can lead to serious conditions like anemia, frequent infections, and bleeding. However, MDS-SLD is generally considered to have a better prognosis than other types of MDS, and it's unlikely to develop into acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Treatments for MDS include supportive care, drug therapy, and stem cell transplantation. Doctors may also use scoring systems to predict a patient's outlook and decide when to treat, since the outlook for MDS isn't based on the size of a tumor or how far the cancer has spread. He has never been sick he is being put in front of a team to have a steam cell transplant our lives have been turned upside down God had him in his hands and we would be grateful for any help ... its a long time away from the kids and home for the transplant and we dont know how we are going to swing it.. 100 days from start to he might be ok... thank you for taking the time to read this post.
