Hi, My name is Stacey Hughes and I'm writing this on behalf of my good friend, Meaghan Penney and her beautiful family. This morning their house in New Germany was destroyed by an electrical fire. Meaghan and her husband Brent had just dropped off their little boy, Carter, at school and went right back home to wrap Christmas gifts. When they arrived home, their house was filled with dark smoke and flames. Brent crawled through the thick smoke to find Miyu, their 4- month old golden doodle puppy and to let him out of his crate and outside to fresh air. It took a bit longer to reach their beautiful two year old dog, Paisley but she finally came through the smoke to their frantic calls. Unfortunately this afternoon Paisley started to exhibit signs of smoke inhalation and they had to rush her to a 24 hour animal hospital in Halifax (and took Miyu along to be checked out). The next 72 hours will be critical for both dogs and the vet bills will likely be large.
Unfortunately this young family is no stranger to vet expenses this Fall. They adopted a sweet puppy named Stella on Thanksgiving weekend who became very sick over a short period of time. They tried everything to save her but she continued to deteriorate and they lost Stella. One month later they were approached by their breeder, Krista because one of Stella's littermates needed to be re-homed for compassionate reasons. Krista immediately thought of Meaghan and her family because they are the most kind and compassionate souls. They adopted Miyu and he became fully immersed and loved by all of them. Through it all, Paisley has been a perfect, welcoming big sister.
If you know this family, they have probably made your world a bit better in some way; they are constantly making kind and thoughtful gestures and are always there for anyone who needs them. I can not rationalize how such bad things can happen to such good people but they have handled everything with grace. They have house insurance to cover their physical losses but it does not help with vet expenses. If you're able to help with Paisley's recovery please donate!
