Help the Pearston Family Through Brody's Healing
Doação protegida
On Friday, June 7, 2025, The Pearston family was struck with tragedy. Brody (8) was severely burned in a fire at their residence. Brody received 2nd degree burns on approximately 45% of his body. He was rushed to the hospital and then flown, by helicopter, to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.
Brody’s dad, Durk, was able to extinguish the fire that had engulfed Brody, but not without receiving burns to his hands.
Brody is an energetic 8-year-old and plays for the North Polk Comets 9U team, along with his brother Knox, and are coached by their dad. The Comets are an avid rival of the Iowa Sticks 9U team, always giving them a run for their money. Every game is earned, not given.
Brody has a very long road to recovery. He will need several surgeries which require multiple trips to Iowa City. Brody’s Mom, Ashley, and his dad are splitting time between Iowa City and home to ensure both boys are supported. They weekly visits to Iowa City will occur for the foreseeable months, even after Brody gets released.
The game of baseball builds communities, and it goes beyond just the field. The 9U Sticks played a league game on Wednesday June 11th. Brody was watching the game, cheering on his friend, while in his hospital bed. Brody’s dad said it was the highlight of his week. A simple game providing a ray of light during a tough time.
In hopes to alleviate a fraction of the stress the Pearston’s are facing, we, as a Sticks family, let’s come together and lift them up.
