With broken but hopeful hearts, our Ohana has said our final earthly alohas to our daughter Leia Kawailani Pinpovi Parker, and released her into the loving and gracious hands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Most of all she was a blessed gift and dear daughter And sister to our daughters Anna and Violet. Leia was also a beloved great great granddaughter, great granddaughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, goddaughter and friend to many.
Leia, our Rebel Princess and General of the Resistance, ruled her home with joyous laughter and chaotic precision in getting her sisters’ to submit to her desires. She strutted in sassiness and mastered being the boss of the house. She rebelled to victory and became the Queen of the House for Mom and Dad too. And as a true princess, she never failed to tell you when she didn’t want to. She didn’t miss the chance to stretch a day of fun into a really long day of laughter. She never met a camera that didn’t love her. She sang her favorite songs from Coco like a little diva into Mommy’s make up brush. She loves unicorns and mermaids - she was magical. She learned to wobble to and fro to the cadence and gate of her beloved Ewok “Yub Yub.” She spread aloha every day of her life.
After a tragic accident, our sweet Princess P spent May 4-May 13th under the watchful eye and loving care of Rady’s Children’s Hospital doctors and nurses. Social Workers, Respiratory Technicians and Hospital Pastors were kind, patient and always ready to listen and give a good hug when we often needed it. Our hospital Chaplain Ryan and our nurses became family. They made sure our little Rebel Princess was pampered adding little touches of comfort, time with Leia, and, most of all, ensured our prayers were a priority in her care. Nurse Laura was the first on the battlefield and fought hard to keep her alive. Nurse Ericka was the protective Aunty. Nurse Jen was quick to make our little girl beautiful. Nurse Natasia worked through the hardest day holding back tears to ensure Mother’s Day would remain special. Nurse Rose treated her like her own granddaughter. Nurse “Aunty Tara put her special touches and wisdom into our hearts. Nurses Courtney, Alicia and Brandon gave her a kind touch in her final hours to honor her dignity.
God was with us the entire time! Prayers were raised from all over California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, Mexico, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, Texas and Washington...not to mention prayer lists internationally. We were blessed by our pastors: Pastors Dennis and Michelle Estill, Pastor Aaron Thompson, Pastor Pam Durham and Pastor Ryan. Pastor Dennis baptized our babe, quietly and humbly inviting the Holy Spirit. Pastor Michelle led soul enriching, hope restoring worship over her bed. Pastor Aaron led our sister congregation in worship and prayer for Leia and our Ohana, and led prayers over her bedside. Our close friends and mobile angels, Pastor Pam, Dawn Dietz, Kristin Wells, Shaunna Kamrath and Amber Lowe nurtured, spent days with and prayed over Leia’s Aunty Hallie and Uncle Liam while still making Prom and baseball a joyful and safe harbor from the heavy emotions of worry. We had plenty of God moments with divine appointments - a nurse who only came in when we were crying or praying. She was a believer...we never saw her except during the hard times. There was also the Echo Gram Technician Chandler who freely offered an amazing prayer when he came in to check her heart for organ donation. And most commonly but ever precious, all those faithful believers who spoke truth and hope into our days. Kind words always. Peace from our Comforter always.
We were also blessed by Ronald McDonald House! The blessings transcended the food, the room, the facilities...it was the beautiful people who volunteered AND all the other families fighting through their own journeys. On our worse day, the amazing Victory Outreach Community Church of National City wrapped us up in prayer and kind words - such a lift for our soul!
Rady Children’s Hospital Chaplain Ryan, our faithful companion, beloved fellow Star Wars geek and servant of Christ poured out life giving love into our family for days. Fittingly, he led the family and staff procession to the Operating Room. After we said our final alohas, and kissed her, Ryan walked Leia through the OR doors leading her surgical team. We pray he was the last to kiss her before he read our prayers over Leia and the team.
Finally she left us...forever impacted by her tragic loss, imbued with her infectious laugh, influenced by her desire to snuggle her lovies, and INSPIRED to love with a child’s heart. Leia fought like the Rebel Princess she is, In the end she fought to stay healthy and give the joy of life to four precious souls and their families - a joy that, we hope, prevents today’s gut wrenching sadness for those four blessed families.
Leia’s legacy will be in her life giving donation of her tiny heart, liver, kidneys and cornea. See while we all think we can donate, the firm reality is Leia’s gift of life is a divine miracle. Of 4000 people who chose to be donors only 300 simply qualify. Only 120 or so surgeries actually occur in all of San Diego County each year. The Lifesharing Staff of UCSD said it was truly a miracle to have four matches from the same donor. Jesus met our grief with beautiful life and restoration. We will always remember our little hero, our precious butterfly.
Waycee and I are fundraising to pay for our daughters funeral expenses, loss wages, Leia’s hospital bills that have placed us in a financial burden. Any little bit helps even if it’s $5, $10, whatever you can spare to help us as we transition I to a life without our Rebel General. May God bless you all.
