Our family was impacted by the devastating fire on E 187th Street in the Bronx. My aunt and her family, the Palacios family, lost their home and everything they owned in this tragedy.

At the time of the fire, my 19-year-old cousin, Jared Palacios, was the only family member in the apartment with their dog, Rocky. As the fire spread, Jared was able to escape through the front door of the building while holding Rocky.

When he made it outside, his hair and clothing were on fire. He has said he felt like his whole body was burning. People nearby rushed to help him, trying to remove the burning clothing, and a barber from Invictus Barber Shop brought scissors to cut off his clothes and cut away his burning hair to help stop the flames.

During the chaos, Rocky became separated and is currently missing. We are still hoping and actively searching for him.

Jared, who enjoys playing soccer with family and friends, suffered second-degree burns to his chest, hands, and scalp and is currently hospitalized. His head had to be shaved for treatment. He is stable but still receiving care and faces a long road to recovery ahead.

Right now, the family urgently needs help with temporary housing, clothing, food, and medical expenses as they begin to rebuild their lives after this tragedy.

Nuestra familia se vio afectada por el devastador incendio ocurrido en la calle 187 Este, en el Bronx. Mi tía y su familia —la familia Palacios— perdieron su hogar y todas sus pertenencias en esta tragedia.

En el momento del incendio, mi primo Jared Palacios, de 19 años, era el único miembro de la familia que se encontraba en el apartamento, junto con su perro, Rocky. A medida que el fuego se propagaba, Jared logró escapar por la puerta principal del edificio mientras sostenía a Rocky en sus brazos.

En medio del caos, Rocky se separó de ellos y actualmente se encuentra desaparecido. Mantenemos la esperanza y seguimos buscándolo activamente.

Jared —a quien le encanta jugar al fútbol con familiares y amigos— sufrió quemaduras de segundo grado en el pecho, las manos y el cuero cabelludo, y actualmente se encuentra hospitalizado. Tuvieron que afeitarle la cabeza para poder administrarle el tratamiento. Su estado es estable, pero continúa recibiendo atención médica y tiene por delante un largo camino hacia su recuperación.
