An Exciting Update!
We have some wonderful news to share: with your support "The Painter" has started university in Thailand and is loving her classes! She has achieved high grades and is thriving in the creative community. Unfortunately due to student visa restrictions she is not able to work to support herself and therefor I am asking for your continued support. Your generosity isn’t just funding tuition and living expenses — it’s opening the door to a future full of hope, purpose, and creativity.
I have gotten to know "The Painter" (name and photo edited to protect her identity for safety reasons) as her volunteer mentor and have been inspired and moved to tears by her story of resilience and bravery in the face of unbelievable hardship. As an artist myself the struggle of this incredible young artist is particularly meaningful. “The Painter” was a star pupil with a deep love for art and exceptional academic talent. Graduating high school at 15, she earned acceptance to one of Afghanistan’s top art universities, ready to explore her craft among like-minded creatives. But in August 2021, the Taliban's rise to power crushed those dreams, as universities and classrooms were barred to women, and the arts faced heavy suppression.
Against the odds, “The Painter” found resilience and voice by joining international art exhibitions, channeling her experiences through powerful art. She also continued her education through Herat Online School discovering her passion for university level critical thinking and analyze. Now, she has a remarkable opportunity: she was accepted to the University of Lynchburg in Virginia, standing out among 3,500 applicants to receive the highly competitive Global Presidential Scholarship of $31,000 a year, recognizing her talent and leadership. But it only covers 83% of her tuition. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment, but she urgently needs $25,000 to cover the remaining tuition, living costs, and eligibility for her student visa.
As her volunteer adviser I am asking for your help. Your support can bring this young artist closer to her dream of studying art and raising her voice for women and artists worldwide. Every contribution helps— please join us in making her vision a reality!
All funds will be distributed as needed for tuition and living costs.
