My name is Tara Maas and I am doing this on behalf of Ashley Overfield and her little family - Some families give endlessly to others without ever asking for anything in return. Ashley and her family are exactly that kind of family. They are generous. They are kind. They show up. They would do absolutely anything for any of us if it were within their power. Now they need us.
On November 10th 2023 sweet Kylie was born with a rare and devastating genetic mutation called Surfactant B deficiency- a condition so severe that the only way to save her life was a double lung transplant. On April 17, 2024 Kylie received that miracle gift - new lungs.
But the road since then has been incredibly difficult.
Kylie is currently hospitalized after doctors discovered fluid in her lungs along with signs of serious lung rejection. Rejection is life threatening. She now requires oxygen 24hours a day as her medical team works urgently to protect her transplanted lungs.
Her fight is ongoing and she is a warrior princess!
Kylie has two amazing older siblings who also require extensive care . Her older sister has autism and her older brother is nonverbal and also on the autism spectrum. Both children receive specialized therapies and services and attend schools to support their unique needs. Ashley stays home full time to care for Kylie and manage countless appointments, therapies, medications, and hospital stays- not just for Kylie but for her siblings as well.
Jakob is the sole provider and amazing father and husband and recently switched jobs to secure more hours and better stability for the family. Just as they were adjusting to that change, they were hit with another devastating blow- their landlord informed them that their rental home is being sold. They now must move while Kylie is hospitalized and battling rejection.
In addition to frequent travel between Virginia and DC to specialized care and therapies and hospitalizations the family must also travel to Texas Children's Hospital, where Kylie's transplant was performed, for ongoing transplant follow-ups and critical care. These long distance medical trips add tremendous financial strain on top of everything else.
This family is facing overwhelming financial pressure all at once :
Ongoing hospitalization and transplant related care
Travel between Virginia, DC and Texas
Lost wages as Jakob takes time away from work to be at the hospital when necessary
Moving expenses
Continued therapies and support services for all three children
This is a family who gives selflessly. A family who steps up for others. A family who would never hesitate to help if he roles were reversed.
Please consider donating to help ease the burden and if you cannot give financially please share this and keep them in your prayers . Lets wrap this incredible family in the same generosity and kindness they have always shown to others.
