As you may have heard, Elizabeth Orris's husband, Blaine Orris was involved in a significant accident with his horse over the weekend. This truly was a freak accident of an experienced horse and rider, at a height they have significant experience at, with a tragic misstep resulting in a fall of both horse and rider.

Blaine's beloved horse Riley is recovering at home. Riley unfortunately also suffered a fracture of her left front medial splint bone. Her best chance of soundness and comfort is surgery to remove the fractured piece of her splint bone, which is scheduled for early next week. Riley and Blaine have been together for 18 years, and she is as much a member of our family as our children. Her recovery is paramount to Blaine's recovery, so we will do everything we can for her.

Blaine is currently hospitalized out of state with substantial injuries. He has multiple fractures of the vertebrae in his C spine. In layman's terms, he broke his neck. It is nothing short of a miracle that he is experiencing no paralysis or other injuries. Family is grateful that his helmet protected his head and brain effectively.

However, this is still a significant injury with a substantial road to recovery. Blaine will be unable to drive, ride, or do farrier work for what is likely to be several months. For a horse trainer/farrier, this is our worst nightmare. Lizzie will be covering as much of his work as a physically can but the loss of his income has the potential to be devastating to our family. The family has 4 children, two barns of horses, and other animals counting on them.

The family is blessed to have excellent health care because Lizzie's military service and are hopeful the out of pocket medical will be manageable, but they have significant concerns for the care of f their family and animals while he is down. Family is so grateful for the support of our family, friends, and horse community at this challenging time.
