I’m writing on behalf of Christine and Robert Ohlson, who have faced a year no one should ever have to endure. After months of uncertainty and misdiagnosis, Christine was ultimately diagnosed with

cancer in January. She faced it the only way she knows how—with grit, humor, and

endless determination. After months of chemotherapy and radiation, she completed treatment in August.

Just as she began to regain her strength, life threw another devastating curveball. In October, Robert went in for what was supposed to be a routine vascular surgery. Complications during recovery led to a serious cardiac event the following night. Further testing revealed a complex condition with no clear treatment path yet. He was finally discharged on November 8, but only conditionally—he needs to rest and rebuild before doctors can move forward.

Now both Christine and Robert are recovering—one from cancer, the other from a heart crisis—and the medical bills just keep coming. Christine has only recently been able to return to work, while Robert is out indefinitely. They’ve faced it all with remarkable courage, but the financial strain is heavy.
