The Run to Daylight Education Program was founded by Timothy Cavanaugh and Stephen G. Hoffman in 1997, with the aim of placing NYC students in Northeast preparatory and boarding schools. Tragically, Stephen was among those lost in the September 11th attacks in 2001. Since then, Coach Cavanaugh has continued to pursue the mission, creating the New York City Lions Football program, which has helped develop numerous athletes and has placed students at Berkshire School, Hill School and Wyoming Seminary among other institutions in recent years.
In my fourth year with the program and second year as head coach for our high school-aged team, the program has continued to gain momentum and evolve, with a record number of players on the roster and increased athletic and academic engagement throughout the calendar year. The season kicked off on September 7th with a Week 1 win over the defending champions, with exciting matchups to come including a Week 3 game vs. St Lukes School. In order for us to provide these unique experiences and up to date equipment for our 45+ player roster, we need your support! Most of our players attend schools with no football program and rely on us for their high school football experience. We aim to give all the opportunity to play no matter their ability to pay equipment or league fees.
Our process has shown results and with your support there is no limit for the future of our program.
Go Lions!
