On July 12th, there was a fire at my parents' house in the hills above Oroville. They barely saved their house (thank goodness!) but they lost their garage with all their tools and and storage items, both their cars were totaled, their solar panels are damaged, and they lost a well. The mobile home on their property that housed my father's library burned as well. The amount of loss as well as the huge cost of clean up and repair is overwhelming.
Unfortunately, as most of you know, insurance for rural families in California has become less and less attainable. A year ago, my parents were unable to purchase regular insurance, and the FAIR plan premium raised to over $12,000 a year. On their retired income, they couldn't come close to paying it. So my mom has spent the year trying to make their home more fire-safe and defensible, (which I credit for this tragedy not being much worse).
So many people have asked how to help. I chose to start this fundraiser to try and mitigate the huge cost and task of the fire cleanup. We know they can't get their buildings or keepsakes back, but maybe we can help them at least clear the devastation and get back on theur feet. Thank you for your time, your donations, and/or for sharing!
Funds will be used for clean up. Specifically: cut and remove burned trees, repair solar panels, repair the well, cut and remove metal waste, dumpster rental and dump fees, equipment to remove the ash and debri.
