UPDATE: FEB 2025
Brad has been given word that the good Lord has beat the cancer! We are ecstatic. It has been a journey. He now has papilledema - swelling of the optic nerve and brain area, which we will get through like everything else. Worst case scenario is death or blindness, best case is we beat this with as little damage to the eyes and cognitive function as possible. We still have major medical bills to pay back and continuing ones are adding up (as the insurance has reset in the new year) and we need your help if you can. It is a constant battle with medical and the bills keep piling up.
Brad Nelson started 2024 off with many medical struggles. After 2 months of going to a primary doctor (who did not listen), Brad was finally sent to the oncologist. After many tests, the news came back that we were dreading: Metastatic Squamous Cell Cancer.
The origin of the cancer was found in the right sinus cavity in the face, just under the right eye. The spread occurred into the right neck.
Chemo and radiation will begin in May and will be every day, Monday through Friday. The plan will start with six and half weeks to see the impact of the treatment.
Our path leading to this (and continuing) has been expensive and emotionally exhausting for the family and most importantly to Brad (who is the prime earner for the family). Brad’s work and owner have been AMAZING to say the least, with complete support, patience and understanding in every scenario.
However, the bills do not stop, and the insurance can only do so much. We have taken out loans, family has provided financial support and we have pinched everywhere we can – but that all has to get paid back. We just cannot see how that is going to be possible without asking for support and help. We have struggled internally to write this and ask for help, as we are not accustomed to doing so.
If the spirit has moved you in anyway, please consider giving to help us prolong Brad’s life and or share this with others so that they may. Please continue to pray for Brad and our family as that is the most powerful love one can give.
Thank you so much.
