On March 23rd, Teresa Muse received a phone call from Samuel's daycare telling her that Samuel was unresponsive. Samuel had been healthy prior to that moment, at least that is what they had thought. The family had already suffered one tragedy by losing their daughter as an infant at UVA almost 10 years ago. Being back at UVA Children's Hospital and discovering that Samuel had a large mass in his frontal lobe was surreal. An emergency craniotomy was performed to remove the mass and contain any damage to Samuel's frontal lobe from expanding due to the infection.
Samuel spent several days in the P.I.C.U and almost two weeks in the main hospital trying to stabilize his meds., and recover enough to go home. Samuel will need to receive I.V meds for the next couple of months and remain home from school for the rest of the year. He will also require multiple forms of medical treatment and therapy. There is a nurse that comes to their home two days a week to assess Samuel's condition and draw samples to ensure minimal damage to his organs from the meds.
Samuel's family is so grateful for all the prayers and donations they have received recently. Although they have seen many blessings come their way, they will be facing a surplus of major medical bills in the next few weeks- to months and unfortunately Teresa has to take fmla leave without pay to care for Samuel.
Although Samuel is on the path to recovery and striving to be an active 8 year old little boy, the family could use assistance because of this emergency.
This fundraiser will go directly to the Muse family to help ease the burden of medical expenses, as well as lost wages for Teresa.
Any and all donations will be appreciated beyond measure!
