Help the Murzenski Family
Donation protected
There are few people in this world that would drop anything to help a friend. Jana and Tom are those people. They are truly the most selfless people; often putting their needs aside to help others around them. Need a kid picked up? They got you. Help with homework? They are there. Sad and need to vent? Say no more. Want to organize an event for someone in need? They are ready. These are the type of people they are and they are raising their two smart and beautiful girls to be the same.
Both Tom and Jana are very active in our local community and lead a life of helping others. For example, they are both extremely active with Girl Scouts, by managing and leading many young girls in our town. You will often find them coordinating donations for several food banks, women shelters, children with cancer, the list goes on and on. Have you ever been to their annual Easter Egg hunt held at their home? All of Washington seems to attend to find the over 2000 hidden eggs for the kids. Or how about the time when Jana shot a completely complimentary newborn photo session for a father, whose wife had just had a massive stroke while giving birth. The list goes on and on and if you meet almost anyone in our small community, they will tell you they know Jana and Tom and share similar stories.
On April 13th, 2021 Tom had a subarachnoid bleed in his brain (a hemorrhage stroke). After arriving at the ER they found the brain bleed via a CT scan. He was then airlifted him to Overlook Hospital in Summit where he spent 10 days in the Neuro ICU. As Jana said, “It was the scariest time of my life and I did not know if my children would have a father. I could not go with him due to covid rules. I did not see him again until the middle of the next day. The next days were a rollercoaster - he felt good, then bad, then really bad, then a little better and then after 10 days they sent him home where we worked on his recovery which was not always easy. Working with his doctor and neurosurgeon we found what worked to keep the pain form the headaches, caused by the stroke down and letting his body rest and heal. He graduated PT and we are now 6 weeks post stroke and he is doing very well. He is working hard to get his endurance back, but his energy level is not yet where it used to be. He will make a full recovery. The type of stroke he had is a scary one - most people don't make it to the ER or end up in a coma for days - but Tom never lost “consciousness. He always has been a fighter."
As you may know, they are both small business owners, and while they have built very successful businesses, no one could have predicted Tom’s stroke and the financial implications it would cause. Insurance will only cover a portion of their enormous medical bills, and because of their self employment status, they do not qualify for some of the assistance that others might. With your donation, every bit will help get this family back to where they were before this happened to Tom, and help them navigate this time with a little less burden to bear.
Thank you!
