Many of you may know our sister and brother in-law, Abby and Scott Mundell. In December of 2017 they were overjoyed to learn they would be welcoming their first child into the world. They began preparing and were eagerly awaiting the baby's arrival in September of 2018. As a couple they easily decided on Marley as the name for their daughter.
Everything about the pregnancy was going along as any other "ordinary" pregnancy. Sadly, on April 26th everything they had been anticipating, planning , and hoping for changed. During a medical appointment they were given the devastating news that Marley was suffering from Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida. Abby and Scott were quickly linked with the Special Delivery Unit at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). It was at CHOP they were informed that Marley would need to undergo in utero surgery to prevent further damage to her spine and brain. While the surgery would offer the best possible outcome for Marley, it's a life altering event for Abby and Scott.
Having utero Myelomeningocele (MMC) surgery requires Abby to uproot herself from her husband, home, and work to move to Philadelphia for not only the surgery, but the remainder of her pregnancy. The decision to undergo this procedure is the best option for Abby, Scott and most importantly Marley but ultimately means they will face significant emotional and financial stressors.
Please help us in supporting Abby, Scott, and Marley through this difficult journey.
Love,
Erin and Adam Fillmore
