Help for the Morgan’s with a 2ND spinal surgery at Mayo

My name is Coty Morgan… I am a single mother of 2 of the most amazing girls in the world. Their father passed away 2 years ago and I have been raising them for 12 years alone. They are absolutely AMAZING girls. They work hard, do good in school, help me out at home, play sports, and both have jobs already at 14 and 15 years old.

My youngest daughter was diagnosed with severe idiopathic scoliosis when she was 10 years old. She had spinal surgery to correct the curve and it worked… for about a year.

At our 18 month follow up we discovered the tether in her back had broken. The surgeon told us she had not seen this happen in her years of performing this surgery. They thought everything would be fine as they felt she was done growing and the curve wouldn’t worsen… well, unfortunately that didn’t happen.

Recently, she broke down and told me her back had been bothering her. We did some repeat imaging and… her curve is the worst it has ever been… even worse than before the first surgery.

As a mother, my heart is shattered in pieces. To watch my daughter go through this ONCE was too much… and now to think of doing it all again has my heart broken.

We found shortly after our visit with Mayo and plans for surgery in winter that now… surgery can’t wait any longer than about 1 month… meaning not much time to save money or plan…

With this surgery, recovery and inpatient will be longer… meaning more time off for me and once PTO is gone, the remainder will be unpaid. I am already working 2 jobs to just keep up with regular bills and back debt of the medical bills from the first surgery.

I don’t like asking for money… but the reason I am doing this is mainly my oldest daughter…along with other close family and friends. My oldest has seen this before and knows the financial impact it has had on us and doesn’t want to see us financially struggle…AGAIN. She said, “Mom, if you don’t do it, I will.”

So, please DO NOT feel inclined to give as I KNOW so many people are struggling these days… but even helping share this is appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

I simply want to be there through all of this for my daughter…
