Help the Moon Family Battle Cancer!

Hi there!

We're the happy little Moon family - Reineke, Jackson, Wilder, and baby Winter.

Recently, it was discovered that our beloved Reineke Moon has advanced stage inflammatory breast cancer. We were bewildered at first, but are ready to battle this disease to the edge and back! Currently, the treatment will consist of 6 rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy, and then radiation therapy. Reineke will spend most of the year in treatment surrounded by all the love we can muster.

While we build our support network, we've incurred a lot of costs that won't be slowing down anytime soon. We hope this GoFundMe will help provide support during this difficult time and allow our family to face this disease as (relatively) stress-free as we can.

Below, I've listed some of the common costs for this type of treatment. These factors are the driving force behind our goal amount.

Chemotherapy:

Insurance covers most, but out-of-pocket costs for drugs can be $3,000–$5,000 per month for up to a year.

Double Mastectomy:

Surgery and hospital care are often covered, but co-pays and non-covered expenses may add up to $10,000–$25,000.

Radiation Therapy:

Typically covered, but each session can still cost $500–$3,000 out-of-pocket for co-pays.

Ongoing Medications and Follow-up:

Insurance covers most drugs like Herceptin, but out-of-pocket costs for ongoing medications and scans can range from $500–$5,000.
