Help the Molina Family Through Joel's Health Crisis

Dear friends and family,

My name is Jamie, and I’m Darcy’s sister. I’m reaching out on behalf of my brother-in-law Joel and the entire Molina family during this incredibly challenging time. Joel and Darcy were traveling to Laos for their son Andrew’s wedding to his fiancée, Weow. Joel suffered a devastating heart attack at the Bangkok airport. Thankfully, their son Jon knew CPR and helped save Joel’s life. Joel experienced a second heart attack on the way to the hospital. He was rushed into emergency quadruple bypass surgery, which appears to have gone well—but complications, including oxygen deprivation to his brain, have made his recovery incredibly challenging.

Right now, Joel is on life support, giving his heart and other organs a chance to recover. Each day has brought some encouraging signs—he’s been able to wake up and respond—but there are still serious hurdles ahead. Darcy and their family are staying close by his side in Bangkok, doing everything they can to support him.

Medical costs in Thailand are less than what they would be in the United States, but between multiple complex surgeries, dialysis, life support, and more, the costs are quickly rising. The Molinas do have health insurance, so most of the medical expenses should eventually be covered. But the hospital requires payment upfront, which has caused much financial anxiety, and it’s unclear when insurance will reimburse the Molinas. On top of that, the family is facing unexpected travel and lodging costs while they remain far from home during this critical time.

We are asking for your support to help ease the financial strain on the Molinas as they navigate this emergency. Your contributions will go directly toward covering immediate medical bills, travel expenses, and accommodations for Darcy and their children while they remain in Bangkok.
