I am faced with a difficult situation and would not normally request assistance or post anything of this sort but my mom had a brain aneurysm on May 21st, 2025. A blood vessel burst in her brain and she needed urgent medical treatment.

My mom, living in Trinidad does not have any medical insurance and lives from her monthly Government pension. Within the past 4 years my mom suffered 2 minor strokes which made her mobility limited and caused her body to become very weak and unfortunately unable to perform some of her normal daily functions. She has a high ongoing medical expenses with Doctor visits, medication, tests and bloodwork which all has to be paid from her fixed monthly pension. If you know what Trinidad’s medical situation is, then you would understand that you must pay for medical care and all expenses if you want to live, especially if you have to call an ambulance to take you to the hospital. Going to the public hospitals is horrendous and you don’t get the care needed.

In the early morning of May 21st, my mom tried getting off her bed and unfortunately with her weak and fragile legs she was unable to stand up, her legs giving out and she fell, hitting her face to the ground. She collapsed and there was no one with her at the time. Somehow, sometime, not sure how long after, she was able to call my brother around 3:15am, who immediately jumped into his vehicle and rushed to her attention. This took approx. 20 mins for him to arrive. We don’t know exactly what happened and how long she was on the floor or even if she was unconscious for any period of time. Upon my brother arriving at the house, he immediately called the ambulance seeing the condition she was in. My mother could not speak properly, stand up or even walk to the door. The Paramedics had to clean her up as she had vomited and had number 1 and 2 on herself. We believe sometime during all of this she had a brain aneurysm.

Upon reaching the private hospital, the Doctors attended to her and had called in the Technicians for an emergency request of CT scans, x-rays and bloodwork to determine what was happening to her. She was then placed in the ICU under observation. Her blood pressure was over the roof and her oxygen level was very low. They immediately started IV and medication to lower her blood pressure.

My mom is under the care of one of the Neurosurgeon at Medical Associates in Trinidad. Her blood pressure just wouldn’t go down and they have to periodically increase the medication. Today my mom is staying with family members but unfortunately, she is very weak and unable to walk and needs constant supervision and assistance 24 hours.
