My name is Lorie and I am raising funds in an effort to help my daughter, Morgan, and son-in-law, Preston, and their three beautiful children (Kailey age 12, Levi age 7 and Elsie age 1) as they fight for Preston's life; quite literally. Most people are familiar with the phrase "It takes a village." And I am here to tell you that this family really needs a village more than ever in this space of their lives. 

 

In August 2021 Morgan and Preston received the devastating news that Preston had been diagnosed with Stage 3 Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer (he celebrated his 33rd birthday this same month). At this stage, this disease is both mentally and physically life-altering, and his treatment plan will last well over a year with no guarantees that it will be successful. No one is ready for that reality, but it is now theirs.

 

Illness such as this wreaks havoc on finances. To put it in perspective, from August 2021 through likely February 2022, their own out of pocket costs for Preston's treatment will reach $16,000, this is the portion they owe after insurance pays. Preston had to quit working to focus on his treatment plan, which consists of extensive chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries. They went from a one-income family to temporary disability and have had a difficult time getting responses from the State on the status of his payments. One payment was issued in October, it is now the end of January, and no progress has been made even though all paperwork has been provided and he's been approved. They are stuck in "the system" with millions of other Californians awaiting similar payments. Their local Assemblyman's office is stepping in to assist with answers, but they even said it could take months. Even after this is resolved, his total benefit amount will barely cover his medical expenses.

 

I am posting this in an effort to lessen their stress and struggle and allow them to focus their energy where they need to - on healing, on providing each other with support, and on loving each other like crazy. They shouldn't have to worry about how to pay the medical bills, or rent, or groceries. If you find it in your heart to help we sincerely thank you. Prayers are welcome too. Always.
