Help the Miller's Rise from the Ashes

When an unexpected tragedy in the form of a fire rips through your home, it takes not only your treasured belongings, but your sense of safety and normalcy. Life changes drastically. That’s what Amy and Mark Miller and their two children Madalyn (8) and William (2) are experiencing right now. Their home in Canastota was destroyed by fire on Thursday, June 18, 2020.
My name is Kristen Lawton; I’ve known Amy since 2008 when she started working at the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency in Syracuse. Amy was a fast friend; a consummate professional; and a role model. No matter how busy she was, she always took the time to ask on everyone in the office. She would remember even the minutest detail of a story you told her, ages ago, because Amy truly cares about everyone she meets. She goes out of her way to help others with acts of kindness, both big and small.
That’s why, together with Tom Rhoads (former Executive Director of OCRRA) and Greg Gelewski (former Operations Manager at OCRRA and current Deputy Director of the Madison County Department of Solid Waste, where Amy currently works), I set up this GoFundMe campaign for Amy and her family.
Amy has touched so many people’s lives with thoughtfulness and love. We wanted to send that love and thoughtfulness back to her at a time when she really needs it. Amy would never ask for help, but that doesn’t mean we can’t provide it.
So, for those who heard about this tragedy, but don’t know exactly how to help – for those that know Amy, or Mark, or Maddy or Will (or their beloved dog Logan), and want to show them they are in your thoughts, please consider a donation.
The money raised will be used by the Millers to replace some of their items, assist in the rebuild, and provide a semblance of normalcy for Maddy and Will. There are so many things we all take for granted each day, a family meal together; clothes to wear; and books and toys, please help give a little bit of normalcy back to the Miller’s at this difficult time.
