I am being maliciously prosecuted for being Black in Carbondale.
On Christmas Eve 2020, I was violently forced to the floor of the Carbondale City Market by several Carbondale police officers. I didn't do anything wrong. I was lawfully in the process of purchasing a few items at the self-checkout, when these officers accosted me and demanded to see identification. When pressed, one of these officers said that I was under investigation for “trespass.”
I am being prosecuted by the Town of Carbondale for 1) Resisting Arrest 2) Obstructing official business and 3) Disorderly conduct. What happened to the trespass? Not only this was a terribly humiliating situation, now I am forced to defend myself in a Court of Law. My attorney has been working diligently for over a month for free.
