For those who somehow don't know, Steve suffered from a massive ischemic stroke in April. He had to be transferred to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit via flight care for an emergency surgery to remove the blockage that caused the stroke. Two days later, due to excessive brain swelling, he had to have another life-saving emergency surgery in which a piece of his skull was removed.
Next week, he will be having the surgery to replace the piece of skull that was removed. The surgery will take place at Henry Ford in Detroit. In order to not have to travel back and forth (something that is very difficult for me due to extreme anxiety caused by highway driving), we will be staying in the guest housing right on the Henry Ford Campus. However, the cost per night has more than doubled since April, from $73 per night to $150 per night. It is estimated that we will be there for three nights.
We have been surviving off of Steve's short-term disability and some savings for the last four months, but this is going to be a bit of a hit to our finances. We were under the impression that Henry Ford had some kind of financial hardship assistance programs to help with these expenses but have recently been informed that they, in fact, do not.
We've tried our hardest to not have to do this but alas, here we are, asking for a bit of financial assistance so that I can remain by Steve's side (or as close as possible) as he continues with the next crucial step in his recovery. Every little bit will help and be greatly appreciated.
