It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved David Mendoza, a devoted husband, father, and cherished member of our community. David was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016, which originated in his kidney, and then removed in 2016. He bravely fought through countless treatments, including years of intensive chemotherapy. Despite being in stage 4 renal cell cancer in his lungs, liver, spine, and brain for over nine years, he continued to live with strength, unwavering faith, and a radiant spirit that inspired everyone around him.

The doctors often said it was nothing short of a miracle that David was able to share these last precious years with us. Throughout his battle, he never let his illness define him. He remained active in his church, Adonai Congregation, where he served wholeheartedly. David had a deep passion for worship; he taught many children how to play the drums, played on the worship team himself, and became an integral part of managing the sound system. He was often the first to arrive and the last to leave, always giving his all regardless of the pain he endured.

This month, David’s condition took a sudden turn when doctors discovered the cancer had spread to his brain. After a final round of treatment, he was rushed to OHSU due to a brain bleed. He spent his last days surrounded by his loving wife Andrea, his daughters, extended family, and church community. Though the doctors fought hard and David showed incredible resilience, he ultimately passed due to complications caused by pneumonia and the rapid progression of the cancer.

We are now reaching out to our community for support. David was the sole provider for his family, and in this time of unimaginable grief, we are seeking to raise funds to help cover funeral expenses and provide temporary financial support for Andrea and their children as they navigate the difficult road ahead.

Con profundo dolor compartimos el fallecimiento de nuestro querido David Mendoza, un esposo amoroso, padre dedicado y miembro muy querido de nuestra comunidad. A David le diagnosticaron cáncer y le removieron un riñón en 2016 y luchó valientemente durante años de tratamientos intensivos, incluyendo quimioterapias continuas. A pesar de estar en etapa 4 durante más de nueve años, vivió con una fuerza inquebrantable, una fe firme y una alegría que inspiraba a todos los que lo rodeaban.

Los médicos decían que era un verdadero milagro que David pudiera compartir estos últimos años con nosotros. A lo largo de su batalla, nunca permitió que la enfermedad definiera su vida. Se mantuvo activo en su iglesia, Congregación Adonai, donde sirvió con todo su corazón. David tenía una gran pasión por la adoración: enseñó a muchos niños a tocar la batería, tocaba él mismo en el grupo de alabanza y se convirtió en una parte fundamental del equipo de sonido. Muchas veces era el primero en llegar y el último en irse, siempre sirviendo con amor, a pesar del dolor que pudiera estar sintiendo.

Este mes, su salud empeoró repentinamente cuando se descubrió que el cáncer se había propagado al cerebro. Luego de su último tratamiento, fue trasladado de urgencia al hospital OHSU por una hemorragia cerebral. Pasó sus últimos días rodeado del amor de su esposa Andrea, sus hijas, su familia y su comunidad de fe. Aunque los médicos hicieron todo lo posible y David demostró una fortaleza admirable, lamentablemente falleció debido a complicaciones por neumonía y el avance acelerado del cáncer.

Hoy, con humildad, pedimos el apoyo de nuestra comunidad. David era el proveedor principal de su hogar, y en este momento de profundo dolor, estamos recaudando fondos para cubrir los gastos del funeral y brindar apoyo económico temporal a Andrea y a sus hijas mientras enfrentan estos meses tan difíciles.
