Hello Everyone, My name is Anggie Medina and on Wednesday night Hurricane Ida struck my home. The day that started out with excitement soon changed my life forever. My family has been living in this basement for over 15 years, once my mother moved out I moved in here with my own family. Though out those years it has flood very minimal before (up to below the knee) but never like this.
As we were eating dinner, the sound of the toilet bubbling started it all off. In a few seconds water was gushing out from the toilet, shower, sink, windows, doors, bricks and even from outlets.
In a few minutes we saw our home disappear around us. Water reached all the way to our shoulders as we were mentally contemplating whether we were really going to die in our home, a place that we viewed as safety.
As we were taking things out of the house our door locked behind us trapping us inside the basement with all the water. We managed to climb from the Fridge out the window. Thank god we didn’t get electrocuted since everything was plugged in still....
We managed to save our computer, a few documents, a few toys and some clothes. Other than those things we lost everything else...our beds/sofa/clothes/groceries/toys/memories/laundry machines/ stove/ stove/electronics, etc. and most importantly our Home.
We started this page to tell our story and hopefully receive some financial aid to slowly put our house back together again. Any help will be greatly appreciated to recover everything that we have lost. We are so grateful that we are safe and alive, thank you all for your support and prayers. God bless everyone and stay safe.
