Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

We come to you with heavy hearts, asking for your support following the devastating impact of the Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, which recently tore through our beautiful island of Jamaica. Among the hundreds of thousands affected, my family, who resides in the parish of St. Elizabeth, where the eye of the hurricane met the landfall, has suffered the heartbreaking loss of our family home.

Words cannot describe the terror we faced during the storm when we were forced to hunker down in our bathroom, taking shelter under our mattress as our roof was being ripped off above us and our walls were being torn apart, all while our home was being flooded. We have not only lost our home, but we have also lost our place of safety, all sense of normalcy, and our peace of mind.

We are alive and for that, we are so thankful, but our family is now facing the huge challenge of rebuilding from scratch.

Your donations will go toward labor and material costs to rebuild our home. These costs are rising quickly as supplies are not only becoming scarce in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa but also, due to the extent of damage to our roads, they are far more difficult to access. These donations will also help in securing temporary housing and replacing basic necessities such as food, clothing, and essential household items.
