The Marroquin family needs our prayers and support. The news report does not give the full scope of what really happened. On Thursday October 17, 2023 three of the Marroquin siblings were violently struck by a vehicle who lost control as they were on the way to parent conferences at John Muir middle school in South Los Angeles. 22-year-old Marcela along with 14-year-old Madelyn and 11-year-old Matthew were patiently waiting for the green light at the intersection of Vermont and 59th Street as they heard a speeding vehicle approaching. Everyone assumed the vehicle would continue going straight but instead, it lost control and hit them as it made its way to crash into Amor Kids Dentistry. Marcela managed to push Madelyn out of the way as she saw the vehicle approaching. She also put Matthew behind her in hopes of minimizing the trauma.

Marcela sustained a head injury and was discharged the same day as well as Madelyn who hurt her arm. Matthew being the youngest sustained major trauma to the head. He needed emergency surgery to drain the blood from the brain and spent 4 days in Pediatric Intensive care unit. He has since been released from PICU but remains hospitalized. He had a drainage tube that has been removed, but doctors removed part of the jawbone to make a graft for his skull.

Matthew is healing, but the road to recovery is long and he will continue to need mom by his side 24 hours a day. Roxana (mom) has not left his side and is currently experiencing a loss of income. This is where we, the wonderful community come in. We can help alleviate the struggle they are facing by helping donate money to cover expenses like food, rent, transportation, medicines, and bills. We all know that the responsibility of a household does not stop because one is not able to work. Ms. Marroquin was my wonderful parent volunteer, she volunteered at 52nd st Elementary for many years and selflessly gave up her time to help as was needed. She is a wonderful part of the community and together we can come and join hands with her during this moment of need.

La familia Marroquín necesita nuestras oraciones y apoyo. El noticiero no muestra la magnitud de lo que realmente sucedió. El jueves 17 de octubre de 2023, tres de los hermanos Marroquín fueron atropellados violentamente por un vehículo que perdió el control cuando se dirigían a una conferencia de padres en la escuela secundaria John Muir en el sur de Los Ángeles. Marcela de 22 años junto con Madelyn de 14 años y Matthew de 11 años estaban esperando pacientemente la luz verde en la intersección de Vermont y 59th Street cuando escucharon que se acercaba un vehículo a toda velocidad. Todos asumieron que el vehículo continuaría recto, pero en lugar de eso perdio el control y fueron golpeados mientras se estrelló en el dentista Amor Kids Dentistry. Marcela logró apartar a Madelyn al ver acercarse el vehículo. También puso a Matthew atrás de ella con la esperanza de minimizar el traumaal impacto.

Marcela sufrió una lesión en la cabeza y fue dada de alta el mismo día al igual que Madelyn quien se lastimó el brazo. Matthew, siendo el más joven fue golpeado mas grave en la cabeza. Necesitó una cirugía de emergencia para drenar la sangre del cerebro y pasó 4 días en la unidad de cuidados intensivos pediátricos. Desde entonces ha sido dado de alta de la UCIP, pero permanece hospitalizado. Le quitaron el tubo de drenaje, pero los médicos tuvieron que quitar parte de la mandíbula para hacer un injerto para su cráneo.

Matthew se está recuperando, pero el camino hacia la recuperación es largo y seguirá necesitando su mamá a su lado las 24 horas del día. Roxana (mamá) no se ha apartado de su lado y actualmente sufre una pérdida de ingresos al no poder ir a trabajar. Aquí es donde entramos nosotros, la maravillosa comunidad. Podemos ayudar a aliviar las necesidades que enfrentan ayudando a donar dinero para cubrir gastos como comida, alquiler, transporte, medicinas y facturas. Todos sabemos que la responsabilidad de un hogar no cesa porque uno no pueda trabajar. La Sra. Marroquín fue mi maravillosa madre voluntaria, trabajó como voluntaria en la escuela primaria 52nd St durante muchos años y desinteresadamente dedicó su tiempo para ayudar cuando fuera necesario. Ella es una parte maravillosa de la comunidad y juntos podemos unirnos a ella durante este momento de necesidad.
