Three years ago on July 1st, The Market on Main Placerville opened its doors with a dream: to create a place where you can have a glass of wine or a pint of beer and delicious quick bites and hang out with friends. The owners Charissa and Anthony (my daughter and son-in-law) have worked nonstop since April 2020 to get the Market opened and continued to work 24/7 as they want to have it succeed. They have poured their hearts and souls into the Market. Being a small business already comes with it's own set of struggles but to have someone break in and vandalize your small business is devastating and unfortunately The Market on Main Placerville was a victim of such an act. On August 13, 2025 at close to 5a someone was seen inside the business and a kind hearted citizen that noticed something wasn't right called 911 and police were able to be there within minutes and arrested the person who made a decision to break in and completely vandalize The Market on Main Placerville. The building itself is a historical piece of Placerville and was built in 1852. The individual broke windows, tore paneling off the wall in the bathroom, rip a rinse sink off the wall, tore boards on the porch up, broke half swinging door, destroyed a Treagar and Blackstone and plenty of other damage, including merchandise. This has been devastating to The Market on Main Placerville and trying to recover is proving to be a challenge. On top of the normal day to day expenses add the insurance deductible and the yearly permit expenses which are due September 1st.
The emotional toll has been extremely heavy, but the financial burden is even heavier. While insurance will cover some of the losses, there is a deductible that must be met out of pocket before coverage begins. For a small business still trying to find steady footing, this setback is overwhelming. We are reaching out to ask for help so The Market can continue being a part of and serving the community. Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
• Repairing damages from the break-in
• Replacing destroyed equipment and supplies
• Covering the insurance deductible
If you’ve ever been touched by a small business, you know the heart, hours, and love that go into keeping the doors open. Charissa and Anthony have poured everything they have into this dream, and it breaks my heart to see it shaken by something so senseless.
Please consider donating, sharing this campaign, or even just sending words of encouragement. Your support—no matter how small—will make a big difference in helping The Market on Main Placerville recover and continue serving our community.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
