Help Stone & Our Family Rebuild After Health Crisis

Donation protected
Hello friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,

Our family is facing an incredibly difficult season, and we are humbly reaching out for help.

Over the past several months, our young son, Stone, has been navigating a frightening and complex medical journey. It began with the sudden and severe onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms, which led to multiple hospitalizations—first at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, and then at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple. Although Stone was thoroughly evaluated, no definitive diagnosis was initially identified to explain the cause of his symptoms. However, just one week after his hospitalization, an independent clinic discovered a bacterial infection that had not been included in the original hospital workup. Since then, the medical focus has shifted toward investigating a possible immune response triggered by the infection, along with a potential hereditary condition. Most recently, lab work has also indicated a possible rare metabolic disorder, which is now being further investigated as part of his ongoing diagnostic process.

Stone’s symptoms have included seizures, episodic regression in math and writing, memory loss, confusion, and disorientation—all of which have deeply disrupted his ability to function in daily life. He attempted to keep up with school through distance learning, but as his cognitive and functional skills continued to decline, we made the painful decision to transition him to homeschooling. This has allowed us to attend multiple medical appointments each week and support him through increasingly difficult cognitive challenges.

Stone is currently scheduled to see a neurologist in late October, followed by an immunologist at Texas Children’s Hospital in November. We remain on a waitlist, hoping for earlier openings, as his symptoms continue to affect his daily functioning—and time is truly of the essence.

Even with insurance, the medical expenses have become overwhelming.

As if the medical crisis weren’t enough, our family is now displaced from our home. A recent mold analysis revealed dangerously high levels of toxic mold spores, including Chaetomium globosum, Stachybotrys chartarum, and Aspergillus versicolor—all significantly above safe thresholds. The report concluded that re-occupancy is ill-advised until further remediation and re-assessment are conclusive. We are currently seeking a second professional opinion to better understand the extent of the environmental impact and its potential connection to Stone’s health.

We are now facing the possibility of having to discard most of our belongings—including bedding, mattresses, couches, and even our children’s cherished stuffed animals. The cost of remediation, temporary housing, and replacing essentials is enormous. The housing market is unaffordable, and relocating is financially out of reach.

We are doing everything we can to stay strong and hopeful, but the emotional and financial burden is severe. We are asking for help to cover:
  • Medical bills and ongoing care for Stone: $15,000 – $20,000
  • (Pending) Mold remediation and environmental safety reassessment $6,000 – $15,000
  • (Potential) Replacement of essential household items: $3,000 – $10,000
  • (Potential) Housing and relocation costs: $15,000 – $25,000

If you feel moved to support us, any donation— whether it's $5, $50, or $500—will make a meaningful difference and help us take one step closer to healing, safety, and stability. Your support will allow us to focus on Stone’s recovery, restore a healthy living environment, and provide our children with the care they desperately need.

We are deeply grateful for your compassion, prayers, and generosity. Thank you.

With love and hope,
Stone's Family
