Hi, my name is Aria, and I am fundraising on behalf of the wonderful and talented Mangkang family, the owners and designers of Electric Sunshine NYC.

***PLEASE READ ENTIRE STORY***

Electric Sunshine is a brand/company founded by App (Artit Mangkang) 2014 and May joined 2016 and have been striving in Soho NY.

They have 2 kids — a 4 month old and 4 year old and a few employees that they want to protect as family through this incredibly challenging time.

In July of 2023, an unnamed individual joined their business as a partner (out of respect for the family and the legal system, I will not be naming this individual).

In just three short months, this person caused damage that could destroy 10 years of hard-work from two small business owners / parents.

After joining in July, the individual made many bad business decisions, told many lies and scammed the Mangkangs.

Having just had their second child, being first-generation immigrants, and running their business on top of everything; the Mangkangs accepted the help for their business with open arms, being in such a vulnerable time period of their lives.

After making a handful of bad decisions without the Mangkangs consent, this individual went on to aggressively lie about their business, claiming that he was the owner and that he designed everything himself.

Earlier this week, when confronted about attempting to steal their livelihood, this individual accessed the Mangkang’s joint business bank account and drained all of their funds, including the money they had been saving.

This pain and financial burden has been detrimental and extremely painful for the Mangkang family.

The funds stolen include money set aside for rent, money to pay employees, even money to feed their newborn baby and their young daughter. They were left with $0.

After pleading with this individual, even after his attempts to discredit the family on their hard work, the individual refused to return the money and said that he was entitled to it — despite the fact that he has no legal claim to their money and had only been working with the Mangkang’s since July. He has since locked them out of their business Instagram and removed anything that could lead to people seeing they are the owners and designers.

Please help by donating or sharing this. I am not just scared for their business and livelihood but I am scared for the financial situation this family has been left in.

It is clear that they were targeted for a number of reasons, specifically because of the fact that they are first-gen AAPI residents of the country, something this individual mentioned to others when attempting to defend his actions.

Regardless, I am asking today for your help for the Mangkangs. Since meeting May and Artit, they have been nothing short of kind to myself, my partner, and many people I know. When I was working in a stressful environment (production), May was the one person to pull me aside and tell me everything would be okay and she fixed up my clothing and comforted me. This is just a small example of how the duo is. These are two individuals who truly love and care for others. They are incredibly talented, May designed and created over 30 pieces in 10 days for NYFW, and have had their store Electric Sunshine since 2017, surviving COVID-19 in New York.

I am confident they will rebuild their business in no time but they need help caring for their children, their employees and their livelihood.

All funds will go directly to the family. Funds will be used for rent for their apartment, food for themselves and their children, payment to their employees and for an attorney. Even the smallest donation means another day of food on the table for their children.
