My name is Melissa and I am sharing this fundraiser on behalf of my amazing dad, Derald.

Those who know my dad know him as a caring and strong jokester of a man, sure to put a smile on your face, or maybe leave you scratching your head! My dad is a loving husband to my incredible mom, Estela, who has stood by his side through everything. He is an amazing dad to his two children, my brother Jeremiah and myself, and he absolutely adores his two grandchildren. My dad is also a proud veteran who dedicated years of his life to serve his country.

After months of struggling with some health issues, we got the devastating news that he had pancreatic cancer that had spread throughout his body. After receiving his diagnosis in mid-August, my dad has fought hard and has always kept a positive attitude, spending time with his loved ones, and always joking even when he is in pain. Unfortunately, the cancer spread quickly and aggressively, and he has been given a terminal diagnosis. My dad is currently in hospice and spending his last days surrounded by those who love him.

We have had so many family members and friends reaching out. We are so thankful for the community of people who have surrounded our family with love and support during this difficult time. My dad’s biggest worry after he passes is my mom, his beautiful wife, Estela.

Between upcoming funeral expenses, the loss of income from all of us taking time off work to be with him, and then grieving this tremendous loss, the costs are adding up quickly. My mom will also be losing some income due to the shift in my dad’s VA benefits after he is gone. Any support for Estela and the Maddison family to help them through this difficult time is greatly appreciated.
