Last night terrible storms plagued South Jersey - unfortunately, due to a drainage issue in the town, my dad’s house was destroyed. The foundation gave way while everyone slept, thankfully everyone got out safely (Dusty too! ) and they’re hunkered down with neighbors.  Unfortunately, insurance is giving them a hard time - stating there is nothing they can do and denying their claim.  USAA told them, on more than one occasion, that flood insurance wasn’t needed since they don’t live on a flood plane; now that disaster has struck they’re REFUSING to help.
Currently their house is condemned, they cannot return, and had to leave everything behind; we’re just grateful everyone is safe. Anything you can do to help, even if it’s just sharing this campaign, is greatly appreciated.

Hello! Again issuing a huge “Thank You” to each and every person who has donated and/or shared! The town has put together a Dine and Donate on Monday July 15 to help our family and our neighbors, the Vespes. Please spread the word, and if you’re looking for dinner on July 15, consider dining at Passariello’s in Haddonfield.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us through this incredibly hard time. I’m sharing last night’s broadcast from Action News (ABC); they are helping get our story out there... we are forever grateful for each and every one of you.

I just want to give a little background on where we currently stand; please excuse the length of this update. I wanted to keep this separate from any other update - I don’t want to tarnish the goodwill of our family, friends, and neighbors with this.

This tragedy was cause by a lack of due diligence on the part of the Boro of Haddonfield, and Remington and Vernick Engineers. There has been a long history (10+ years) of drainage issues behind my dad’s house... the Boro is more than aware of this. A few months ago, Remington and Vernick added additional sewer lines, at the order of the Boro; they did this WITHOUT reinforcing or adding to the current drainage system. In other words, they further compromised an already overworked and faulty drainage system; this seems questionable at best, and incredibly negligent at worst. The culmination of these issues, and prolonged rain, put our family and neighbors in imminent danger. The Boro and Remington and Vernick have admitted they “have never seen anything like this”, yet refuse to accept responsibility. They have even been out to our home, holding clandestine meetings without our permission.

On top of this, USAA continues to deny any attempt to file a claim. They repeatedly state there is no flood coverage, and refuse to send out an assessor; today the head of their claims department again denied the claim, sight unseen. The most frustrating part of everything, is THIS WAS NOT A FLOOD - this claim would not even exist if the Boro and their engineers had acted based on actual engineering and not, I’m sure, let the cost of modifying the existing pipes limit them.
