Help the Lopez Family after a house fire
Donation protected
*********************UPDATE**********
March 28, 2022:
A lot has happened since last June. At that time the plan was still to rehab the family home, after several months of delays it was decided by the family to sell the home and purchase a home that is more handicap accessible for our aging mother.
In addition to the house fire and being displaced, my sister Linda Lopez had surgery in mid-August on her leg to get hardware replaced as a result of a significant injury she sustained over 20 years ago. After months of complications and hospital stays she made the difficult decision to amputate her leg. She is currently in a wheelchair and going through the process of obtaining a prosthetic leg.
The family moved out of the short term rental and into the new family home late January 2022. Thank you for all of your donations and support since the fire, it has truly been appreciated. If you choose to donate or donate again, please know additional funds raised will go towards home improvements.
Sincerely,
The Lopez Family

June 18, 2021:
Hello friends and family. Wanted to give you some updates and explain why the goal of this fundraiser has been increased.
The demo and clean up is complete. The rebuilding process will hopefully begin soon. A city inspector did a walk through with the project manager and requested an engineer come and inspect the structure. We’ve been told that we will be responsible for redoing the roof. Insurance will not cover the roof because it’s not due to the fire damage, but more so needs to be replaced due to normal wear and tear from age. The home was built in 1865 and has “balloon framing.” An old way of building homes that phased out due in part to the high fire risk. While the home was built well back then, over the last 150 years modifications have been made that may have compromised the integrity of the structure.
Please consider donating to help us reach out fundraising goal.
I will continue to post updates. Thank you for checking in, all your prayers, thoughts and well wishes. My mother, brother and sister are doing good and look forward to returning to the family home.

Background:
On Wednesday, January 27, 2021 the Lopez family experienced a tragic fire to their family home on Prospect St. in Racine, WI. Fortunately, Sierra Lopez acted fast and made sure everyone including our four legged family, Gemini and Blanco, got out of harms way.
It’s been a little over three weeks since the fire and my family is just now starting to catch their breath and feel more settled after spending two weeks in a hotel and recently moving into short term housing. We are so thankful to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers who fed us, brought supplies, and offered support and prayers during this challenging time.
The Lopez family has lived on Prospect St. for over 40 years. My parents, Urbano and Julia, migrated from Southern Texas to Racine, WI in search of better opportunities for their young family. Together they built a good life in Racine. My father worked at Racine Steel Casting for over 25 years before passing away in 2004. My mother is doing well considering how disruptive and upsetting the house fire was. Most of the fire and smoke damage was to the upper level where my sister, Linda Lopez, lives - she lost everything.
Anything you can give will be appreciated and will go towards helping my sister replace clothing, furniture, household items and expenses not covered by insurance. Anything raised above our financial goal will go towards making the home safer for my mother who is now 82 years old like replacing the front porch and back porch. Thank you for your consideration.
