Hello family, friends, and those we may not know personally!
What was supposed to be a great start to the New Year turned into a nightmare just before the ball-drop for Jarrod and Mindy Kuper with their 6-year-old son, Kash, and newborn daughter, Kaya in Modesto, CA.
Around midnight this NYE, the family was watching TV when they heard crackling noises outside that they presumed to be fireworks. When power to the house was lost, Jarrod went outside to investigate and saw that their home was in flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed the fire may have started from a stray firework that landed on or near the home's electrical box. The fire department was onsite minutes later, and thankfully the home was saved, however, there is major smoke damage and it's going to be months before the house is livable for the family again. Thankfully, all family members and fur babies are safe and unharmed from the fire! They are currently staying in a hotel that insurance has helped to secure for them, but it's most likely going to be 4-6 months until the family can live in the home again.
The damage uncovered so far includes smoke damage throughout the whole house, especially in the newborn nursery. There is extensive damage to the garage and attic, with parts of the framing destroyed on the first and second floors. The overall structure of the home is salvageable, but there is a possibility that the sheetrock will need to be removed in order to replace all of the home's electrical - if that is the case, this will impact every room and every wall of the home, extending the displacement even longer.
I am Jarrod's younger sister, Nicole, and I've started this GoFundMe to help with expenses surrounding their displacement. Although the family has fire insurance, it's going to be a very long process and we are still unclear on how/when reimbursement will be possible. Please consider donating to this campaign to help with meals, clothing, basic living necessities, assistance with their deductible, and other costs they may face. If you are unable to donate at this time, we greatly appreciate you sharing the campaign!
