Kristen and Rich Kunz, along with their daughters Emma and Abby, are facing an incredibly difficult journey. In August 2023, Kristen was diagnosed with Bulbar-onset ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). ALS is a devastating disease that has profoundly changed their family’s daily life.

Almost immediately after her diagnosis, Kristen lost the ability to speak. Roughly a year later, Kristen lost the ability to eat food and must now use a feeding tube daily for her nutritional needs.

All the while, the physical changes that occur with an ALS diagnosis have continued to progress. Kristen’s neck, arms, hands and legs grow weaker each day.

The Kunz Family continues to face the many physical, emotional and financial challenges that come with an ALS diagnosis with support from family and friends.

However, as Kristen’s condition progresses, the family needs additional support with professional caregiving and making their home and transportation accessible for her needs. Unfortunately, many of these essential expenses are not covered by medical insurance, leaving the family facing significant financial burdens.
