Help the Kelowna Kraken Field Hockey Team Reach Argentina in Summer 2025!

Introduction

Hi everyone! We are the Kelowna Kraken, a dedicated and passionate group of field hockey players from Kelowna, BC, Canada. We have an incredible opportunity to travel to Argentina in the summer of 2025 to compete, learn, and grow in the sport we love. Our team has found significant success in the last 5 years, placing 5th, 6th and 4th at the BC School Sports Provincials and only finishing once out of the top 8 in the past 18 years. Over the last 18 years, we have had many of their graduating players go to play postsecondary Field Hockey both at the CIS and NCAA level. Also, 3 of their graduating players have made it to the Canadian Sr. Women's National team. With that being said, we are very proud of our achievements and the hard work of our players and want to continue inspiring them to play at a higher level.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on the mental health of many teenagers, specifically young athletes. By losing an essential source of stress relief, many kids struggled with anxiety, feelings of isolation and a significant loss of confidence and self-esteem. For our team, this trip to Argentina represents more than just an athletic opportunity; it is a chance to rebuild what was lost. Engaging in international competition, experiencing new cultures, and growing together will help our players regain their sense of confidence, foster resilience, and develop a renewed belief in their abilities. This journey is key in overcoming the challenges brought on by the pandemic and will empower our team to grow both on and off the field.

Our Goal

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, meals, tournament fees, and other necessary team expenses. This trip is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for our team to experience international competition, build camaraderie, and represent our community on a global stage.

Argentina is renowned for its strong field hockey culture and high level of play. Competing against and learning from some of the best teams and coaches in the world will be an irreplaceable experience for our players. It will help us improve our skills, gain new perspectives on the game, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

To show our gratitude to our community our team volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Kelowna this summer! In addition to cleaning the floors and helping organize products, we got to meet some of the amazing people in our community.
