Help the Kelly’s Kick Cancer
On april 30, 2020 mike made a trip to emerge. He had been having some pain and it got to the point of being unbearable. He hopped in the van and Jenn took him in, thinking it would be a simple fix - remove his appendix or a prescription for something to help with the pain. Jenn waited in the parking lot because covid would not allow for her to go in to be with him. Hours later she got a call and they would be keeping him for 3-5 days. They had found an abscess on his bowel and would need to remove it by sucking it out. His hemoglobin was at 44 and the doctor did not know how he was even physically able to stand. Within his first 24 hours he had 3 blood transfusions but his numbers were not going anywhere above 80 and they were supposed to be between 130-140.
Jenn got a call the next day, because when they went to try and remove the abscess, they discovered that it was rock solid. So he would be staying longer as it would need to be operated on and before they could operate, they needed his hemoglobin to be higher - which meant 4 more blood transfusions.
on May 4th 2020 they operated and removed a baseball size tumour along with 40%+ of intestine and bowel, and he was then required to stay a little over a week to make sure he was able to process solid foods and walk.
This surgery itself had put him off work until November of 2020, however they ended up having to start chemo and radiation treatments, and being in the middle of a pandemic, he could not return to work until his treatments were done.
He had a CT scan at the beginning of November and things looked fairly clear, however they needed to wait until after Christmas to do a full body CT scan so that he could be cleared to go back to work.
Mid January 2021 he went in for his scan. A few days later he had a doctors appointment to go over the results and a new tumour over 5cm had grown between his liver and pancreas. This was very concerning to his oncologist and they are now in the process this week of doing scopes and consults, with surgery happening this week or next.
through all of this, family and some members from the church, and mikes work, and close friends have been there to offer support, and they are extremely thankful. Jenn has been working and ei was an option at first, however it’ll be a while before mike is able to return to work and that is just from surgery, not including the potential chemo and radiation treatments after. Because it is not covid related, there are limited relief options, and they are not ones to ask for help - which is why I am doing the reaching out for them.
With 4 kids ages 5 and under, and one of them being only 6 months old and in and out of the hospital with multiple allergies and a severe skin condition, and 7 kids in total, finances should be the last thing on their mind.
we have been made aware of some other “fundraisers” going on which ultimately led to people keeping it for their own gain, so I decided to open this page so that everyone knows that everything will be going straight to the family to help with their day to day needs.
There is not really a set amount. We don’t know how long this will last for them and even with insurance, medication expenses add up. Thank you everyone who has supported them so far. They are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support.
